Welcome to The Back Paddock

The Venue

First a Little History

It's great to have the Elliot 5.9s back in the Back Paddock.

Way back in 1983 as a rather green yachty, who thought he knew it all  took part in the 1983 NZ Trailer Yacht Champs. Hosted at BBYC, but raced all over the Back Paddock. We thought we were shit hot racing my mates fathers Farr 6000.

The regatta weather wise had everything from light drifters to the punishing westerly mentioned below.

Courses were triangles and harbour races over 5 days.

I remember sitting there trimming and getting passed upwind by Brzo on the first beat on one race and realising that the future had arrived. They kicked our arses!

So welcome back the Elliot 5.9, your owners, your crews and supporters.

If you need anything, just ask one of the team or myself.

Cheers

Grant (Commodore MSC- Race Officer)

The Back Paddock

The area that sailing will take place is affectionally known as the "Back Paddock".  Whilst we don't have rolling swells it is known for relatively flat water and great breeze ( in particular in the late afternoon).

The breeze typically this time of year is predominately from the North/North East direction with great conditions .

As the weather gets settled we get Southwesterlies in the afternoon which run along the Omana shore.

If the breeze pumps from the West as it did Anniversary weeekend we get short pitched seas because of  wind against tide in shallow water which can make sailing pretty challenging even for the best

Our Club

We share our facilities with the Maraetai Beach Boating Club, The bar and restaurant facilities are open from 3pm for the duration of the event.

Boat Storage

We will be using the club compound and ramp to store and launch boats.  There will be an allocated spot for boats and trailers. Please do not park boats, trailers or cars outside of the allocated areas as the club will still be functioning as a boating club and members have priority in these areas to park their trailers etc.

Security in the compound is provided by the Club Custodian- Warwick

Launching.

You will be able to launch your boats via the main ramp adajacent to the boat club. While you can launch from the beach, the beach & ramp gets packed in summer and security can sometimes be an issue. If you want to launch from the beach, please let us know in advance.

We will be working closely with Stu to ensure smooth lainching and retrieving for you all.
